After some digestion...(Japan final post!)
It’s been about two weeks now since our team left Toyohashi, Japan, and I wanted to share a little of what God did and how he blessed me in Japan. I tried to keep it as short as I could by giving highlights of each of our ministries, but God did so much, so forgive me if its kind of long! English Classes
I taught two adult beginner English classes (one in the morning and one in the evening)...
Asia 5-Week Team's Final Thoughts
It is still a bit surreal to think that our 5 weeks in E. Asia have come and gone. We are so thankful to have experienced what we did this summer and for the relationships that we’ve built. Thanks to the internet, the relationships that we’ve built with some of our roommates and students are not over – ah, the awesomness of emails, gchats, and vchats. :)
There are many things that we give...

2-week final update!
Hi Everyone, After a few weeks of being back in the states, I had some time to adjust back to life here and think about everything that happened in China. There are some significant lessons that God has taught my team and me there that I hope I can hold on to and apply to my life here. Things have already begun to be crazy and hectic back in New York, but by His grace, He is still present in my...

Japan, Week #2
Hello RWC!
It’s been awhile since our last update and many things have been a happening. Our basic schedule has remained the same; teaching English in the morning and nights, spending time with people during the day and preparing lessons, body worship and our skit.
However, tonight marks the end of our English classes, and after this weekend we will be attending a Bible camp with all the youth...
Nearing the end for Asia 5-wkers
So today marks the last day of classes. It’s a pretty bittersweet feeling that I have been experiencing all week. On one hand, I’m happy to report that all of my students passed their class (YAY!), and grades should be coming out for other classes shortly, as well—hopefully their students did just as well. It’s been good getting to know the students better and having more...
Come and Move
We were not united. Although we came from the same country, it’s been difficult to get together amidst activities, lesson planning, and events. The volunteers from all the different teams have finally gotten a chance to get together for some time of intimacy with the father.
For the first thirty minutes, I requested for the abolishment of confusion. The spi—-rit moved powerfully...
Japan Missions Update Week 1
Hey guise,
It’s already been a week in Japan but it feels like everything is flying by so quickly here. On Sunday, we got to meet all the people here at the church, from the “Hosanna Kids” ministry to the “Oasis” young adult ministry to the two adult services. It was encouraging to worship with all the different services here; we’ve been making like infinity friends instantaneously because...
5 week-asia update!
Hi everyone! Hope that all is well! I can’t believe how fast the time has gone here. We have just over a week until we’re back in NY. Over the weekend a few of us on the team had the opportunity to go to the border of NK and Ch-na. It was pretty surreal being so physically close to NK, and actually being able to see that land in person. It amazes me that even in times like today,...
5 week asia update!
Greetings from East Asia!!!
Having just finished the third week of teaching & English House, we are now comfortable and used to the routine of our every day here. :) Some updates below!
Troopers!
We have many troopers in our team. We had THREE injuries in one afternoon (Friday), involving a sprained ankle, a knee cap bone popped out (and back in), and swollen/bruised finger. They all...
Japan, Day #1
Hello friends!
We have safely arrived in Japan!
We arrived in Nagoya airport (NGO) last night around 9pm local time, picked up our bags and guitars, and drove to the Azumada Chapel, the Brazilian chapel that is part of THCC. The brothers are staying at the chapel, while the sisters are staying at an elder’s house that’s about a 15 minute walk.
Today (Saturday) will be a pretty...
It's Officially NIHON (JAPAN) Time!!!
It has finally reached the end of the beginning if you put it that way. It’s crazy to me that all of this training we’ve put our efforts, energy, commitment, hearts towards is finally going to be tested and put to use in Japan in a matter of now less than 24 hrs?! DANG SON.
Our teams send off was last night and all I can say was that it was an incredible blessing. A tremendous wave of...
Asia 5-week update!
Hi RWC, Thank you for thinking of us. Your thoughts are felt here. We have been here for almost three weeks and it is the midway point of our trip. I (Joyce) am starting to enjoy life here in Asia spending time with roommates, students, and fellow team members. The pace of life seems to move slower here and everyone I have met is very kind. Our 2 week team has also joined us in the last two weeks...
halfway point for the 2-weekers!
On Saturday all the volunteers got ready by 430am to go to Baekdusan. The mountains were about 5 hrs away. It started to rain a bit when we got there, so all of us had to purchase ponchos for 10 local currency. Getting up on the mountain was a bit chaotic, with guides yelling and screaming and people just pushing their way around. But this is supposedly the norm here!
At the entrance of the...
Asia 2-Week Update!
Hello RWC!
Greetings from East Asia! It’s been a full week since we’ve been here, and we have been kept busy but at the same time been provided with time to reflect and be away from our lives we left back in NY.
Our first full week of teaching went well. We have students ranging from professors to administrative assistants who are so eager to learn and are so thankful...
T minus 6 days for the Japan Team
We have less than a week now until we leave for Japan on July 15th and I’m feeling nervous+anxious+PUMPED=NERVANXUMPED! Clearly I had some mediocre math teachers growing up, but hopefully God can grow and strengthen me to be a bold, articulate, and committed servant teaching English classes in Toyohashi. Our English class ministry has been on my mind a lot this past week since our team is...
5 weekers' update!
Hello from Asia! It’s been a bit over a week and a half since my team arrived. I have to admit that it’s been both a trial and a blessing to be here, as I struggled between the desire to be an introvert and the want of loving my roommates and fellow volunteers. Thanks to the introverted side and my morning bird tendencies, my favorite time of day has been that first hour after waking up (around...
Finding Me -- Asia 5-week post
July 3rd, 2010
There’s something about this place that opens the parts of my heart that have been in hiding. He brings out my insecurities and blesses my fears by sweetly turning my head to the words of affirmation through my brothers and sisters. Why does he do this? I can only come to the logical and illogical fact that my lover, my father and my husband loves me so much as the...
asia 5-week update!
Hello Everyone!
Matt here; writing all of you from the Far East. It’s been just about a week here now and already so much has happened. Most of us have finally adjusted to the time difference and are beginning to take full advantage of where we are and who we are with. The first week of teaching was both tiring and so rewarding at the same time. I never thought that I would like teaching, but...
Training, training and now a day away
Training has not been physically tiring as I had imagined it to be, as opposed to the stories of those whose mission preparations included running 3 miles, lifting 50lbs here and there and even praying for hours into the night. But it has been very challenging and it has changed my perspective on missions prep.
I now see that whether training is physically tough or spiritually, it is all to align...

These past few months have been filled with much preparation for our upcoming missions trip to Japan which is now only 2 weeks away! NANI!?!?!?!?! (WHAT?!?!)
Throughout pre-intensive to now intensive training, God has truly revealed a handful to me about my own desires, where my priorities were and how they acted as barriers in my daily life. I personally struggle with the aspect of discipline in...
Asia 5-week update #1 from the field!!!
Hey all! Hope that you guys are all well! It’s been a crazy couple days since we arrived in the country on Friday night. First off, we missed our connecting flight from B to Y because our first flight ended up being delayed about two hours. But the airline provided us with a hotel to sleep in for the night, so it was all good. We arrived at the university on Saturday morning, went through...
Asia 5-week pre-leaving update
A Surprising Father
Father, you surprise me every hour of every day. I know you to be One who is so good in so many different ways. When I struggled on the streets to understand your goodness to those who were starving and suffering, you showed me how wonderful you always have been and will be; You opened up my eyes to the flight of the dove that moves through every brother and sister. I...
Japan Team Update
Sup everyone from the Japan Missions team! We’re well into intensive training, and as Young always likes to say, “It’s intensive training because it’s intense.” I can’t say it hasn’t been a blessing however, because just continually bonding with the team and having consistent time with the Lord has really been a great help in growing spiritually. I...
HAJIMEMASHOU! (LET'S BEGIN!)
I’ve found that an effective way of instilling various new foreign language phrases and vocabulary into one’s memory is to frequently yell them in a fairly boisterous fashion. OYASUMINASAI! (GOOD NIGHT!)…AKUMA! (DEVIL!) I know this is random, but I couldn’t figure out a good segue into the meat and potatoes of this blog post, and thought that this little tidbit on the...
Japan Team Update!
So at the end of what seemed like an eternity after the last day of school, missions training has finally started up again, and what an indescribable blessing and privilege it is to be spending so much time in preparation for our trip with such a unique and encouraging team! And even though it’s already been over 2 weeks since our first day of summer training, it still sorta feels like not a lot...
Hello!
I hope everyone’s been able to enjoy the summer so far, both the sunshine and the rain. The second week of intensive for the Japan team has just passed and it’s been more difficult for me than I had imagined.
One of the biggest challenges for me so far has been time management. Without school work to worry about, I have a good chunk of free time and balancing various...
FIRST WEEK OF INTENSIVE! (Japan Team)
Hi everyone! :)
First of all, I’d like to thank those who have been faithfully praying for us! It means a lot to us, and it’s really reassuring to know that we’re being spiritually protected by our RWC sisters and brothers!
We just had our first week of intensive training. Our first day of training started Monday evening, and we had a sweet time of intimacy with God in...
Update from Japan Team!
Hello supporters and readers! We have just entered our six-week intensive training in preparation for our trip to Toyohashi, Japan this summer. (In case you didn’t know, we’ll be gone from July 15th to August 10th.) Training has been going well. A really quick summary of what we need to finish preparing or accomplish by the time we leave:- worship practice, enough to work well as a...
Updates from 2wk China Team
Our team will meet 3 times a week consistently till the day we depart. This intense training session will help us start prepping for our mission’s trip that will take place in July. So everything has been going smoothly accordingly to plan.
I’m pretty excited about this training session. Minus the fact that it’ll take up most of my week. But then again shouldn’t our lives be like that to...

Info Session for Lisa Lee!
One of our sisters, Lisa, will be holding an info session TOMORROW at the church office to tell us more about her upcoming trip to Asia. Come check it out!!

Hello friends,
As many of you know, I am preparing to go overseas to do the Lord’s work among unreached peoples in Central Asia. I would love to share more with you about...

Living for the dot or the forever-line?
Last night, I met up with my awesome prayer partners. I shared about my life including current life struggles and then shared about how missions prep has been going so far.
During our conversation, we came to this topic of eternity. We shared about how so many of us, including Christians and even ourselves, live as if this time on earth is IT. So we strive to have a good education, build a...
Customer service is always an interesting ordeal. You get the friendly customers who are excited to visit the area and then you’ve got the “special needs” customers who request that you personally move the entrance to the hotel to the other side of the road for easier navigation. Over the past summer, I work for Holiday Inn as a banquet server on the weekends, where I load one arm with perhaps 30...
Submissions now being taken!
Hi all,
Tumblr’s still a little confusing for me…but I just wanted to let y’all know that there IS a submission page enabled if you want to submit a post for this blog!
The URL is rwcmissions.tumblr.com/submit — so easy to remember, ya? It’ll take you to this cool looking page, and once you submit it, Nanette or I will review it before posting it.
And just to...
Missions blog launch!
Hi, and welcome to Remnant Westside Church’s Missions blog. We at SEND! have started this blog in hopes of raising awareness of the work that God is doing in the nations to our church members, and in doing so, encouraging the Body to actively get involved in His work. Our prayer and our hope for the RWC body is that we will grow a more compassionate heart for God’s people, a fiercer...
